The conference will be held at the Grand Hyatt Shanghai but the expense of the rooms will merely blow my budget. Are there any hotels which is just a stone's throw away from the Grand Hyatt? I'm speaking about walking distance, not a taxi ride away... anybody? Thanks! )

Does it have to be inside walking dostance? Can you take the subway? Teh Grand Hyatt is situated in the Jin Mao constructing, which is proper off of Line 2, so something close to a Line two station on the Pudong side of the river would be fine.
In terms of walking to the Jin Mao from a more affordable hotel.. I do not feel so. What degree of comfort/living are you employed to? There is no question that you can keep cheaply in ShangHai, at a Chinese overnight, but the query is would you want to? (to me, it is a query of how strapped for money you are)
It is challenging to describe, but walking to the Jin Mao type anyplace is not that straightforward.. even from the Pearl Tower or Super Brand Mall, which are seemingly correct across the street. The Jin MAo is a massive creating with numerous entrances and sits in the middle of a high site visitors volume street.
instance From the Super Brand Mall, I necessary to catch a taxi in the rain. They were all complete. The greatest opportunity I had was to queue up at the Jin Mao for a taxi, exactly where the valets retain order. (they have two lines, a single for guests and 1 for non-guests.. if you search western, you can go to the guest line)
It took me four minnutes to stroll to the Jin Mao, but yet another eight or 9 to get close to the constructing and cross all of hte pedestrains sidewalks to get to the hotel entrance. and if you stand at the Super Brand, you feel like you could jump across the street and touch it!
If you can somehow afford the Hyatt, it truly is really worth it. The Hyatt starts at the 54th floor of the Jin Mao and has some of the cities greatest restaurants. At least go to the Hyatt gift store and buy the chocolate version of the Jin Mao tower. (cool gift)
