How To Attract Targeted Twitter Followers
To attract a great following on Twitter, and to do it the right way, you have to do two things. You must PARTICIPATE, and you must join the CONVERSATION.
PARTICIPATE. You can follow anyone on Twitter. You don't have to ask their permission. You can follow people you know, people you don't know, and people whom you would like to know.
When you become someone's Follower, you turn up on their list, which means they can see who's following them and so can everyone else. This is also true if people decide to follow you. In my case, I have discovered many important resources to expand my knowledge of social media by going to the roster of people who follow me. Social media is about networks. Twitter is great way to find significant experts in your field and listening to them expound on their level of information.
In the area of social media, experts are very good to their followers. If they have a paper, a blog, an article, or a video, they will link it. These links have given me much knowledge that I wouldn't have gotten otherwise.
CONVERSATION. Twitter is a two way street. If you are following people to learn new stuff, you have to do the same as well. You have to create content. It has to be content that people can use.
Conversation on Twitter is just that. How do you converse in normal times? If you read a good book that gives you specialized information, you go to colleagues and tell them. This is how things are done on Twitter. I have a tip from my own personal experience. Try to keep linking to a minimum. When I see links, seldom do I use them. I look for posts. This is just my personal preference.
On twitter you can ask questions, and provide answers to the questions that people ask. One of the great strengths of Twitter is to get answers in real time. The entire site acts like a giant classroom in which expert-teachers of all sorts on varied subjects are willing to lend their advice to anyone who asks for it. This is how a person becomes an expert. You go to Twitter and soak up what people are communicating to you. This is the strength and power of Twitter. Every time you post on Twitter, every time you read you expand your knowledge. In my case, I like to tweet as I write. By doing this, I have people volunteer things, important information that helps me in writing my articles.
There is a thing called social media etiquette. On Twitter, you receive great amounts of information and content. By the same token, you are expected to give great amounts of good content. The giving of rich content is the means by which you create a legitimate following. The more you tweet, the more followers you create.
