0]as the evening settles down... - bangkok, city of angels
Thanks all,
Dogs are ubiquitous in Bangkok, they run free or associate with someone or a family but still run free.
I think of an old Bob Dylan song where he sings "if dogs run free, why not we?".
I have never seen a city like bangkok with so many dogs everywhere. They hang around bus stops, shops, wander around and almost always, alone. They have become a part of the scene, every scene.
One thing I find odd is inside the city they have adapted so well but in the suburbs, where I live I cannot take a half hour walk without being barked at every thirty seconds and occasionally have my heels snapped at.
I now carry a stick when walking in the evenings but of course, being barked at constantly is not conducive to peace of mind.
The was one pack of dogs nearby where I live that constantly ran after me on my bicycle trying to snap at me. The owners just sit in front of their house half indifferent half amused. One evening I decided one dog was too close and too mean looking and I whacked it on the head. It went running off down a small side street whimpering.
Problem solved. Whenever I walk or drive past that pack now they keep their distance.
I love dogs, always have but out here outside the city you have to be careful
Not all of course, as some dogs have befriended me as go on my short walkabouts.
Again, what I find odd is how the actual city dogs seem to have established harmony with people.
BTW dogs may run free in Bangkok, and elsewhere (everywhere) for the most part but in one area in Thailand, I believe Sakon Nakhon,in the east north-east they catch and eat dogs. I once saw a small van driving around chasing dogs and tossing them into the back. I asked if they were dog catchers working for a pound, which I found strange being 6 or 7 hundred kilometers outside BKK. I was told they were actually dognapping them to sell for food.
So if you wanna run free in your next life in Thailand as a dog, make sure it isn;t in Sakon Nakhon... [/random]Bangkok Accommodation
